MRE Lip Sync

What is Lip Sync?

A super fun event sponsored by the PTO. Lip Sync is a 2 day show starring the kids! The
elementary kids perform “lip-sync” songs in groups; the teachers perform a special “teachers’
act,” and the parents help with everything else. This year’s Lip Sync dates are Wednesday,
March 1st for grades 3-5, and Friday, March 3rd for grades K-2.
Required Dress Rehearsals are Monday, February 27th for grades K-2 and Tuesday February 28th for grades 3-5.

How do I join the show?

The kids work together, or individually, to pick a song and put together their own group. All
group info must be submitted by Friday January 6, 2023. We will not be sending confirmation
of song choice until after that date. Please submit only one entry per group.

Additionally, EACH group member needs a permission slip filled out by a parent of guardian.

What happens next?

  • Please do not submit CDs for song choices. All we need are the Song Title, Artist, and
Album Name of your group’s first and second choices.
  • If your song is a YouTube mashup, you will be asked to submit an mp3 version cut to 2
    minutes.
  • Your song will be purchased and downloaded from iTunes and cut to approximately 2
minutes. Unless otherwise requested, all songs will start at the beginning and will be
faded out and cut at approximately 2 minutes. If your group wants a song to begin at a
different point, please specify the exact time that the song should begin and end.
  • Mr. O’Shea will review all songs and has ultimate say on song choice as far as
    content/language.
  • Your song will be cut and emailed to you by the end of January.
  • Please email any questions regarding song choice, the submission process or cut versions
    to mrelipsync@gmail.com.

How do I get tickets?

You can purchase ticket at either dress rehearsal or at the door on show night. All tickets are $5 and can be paid via cash or check made out to Lancaster PTO.

What is the practice schedule?

We encourage groups to schedule and hold practices at home or another preferred location. With the exception of the dress rehearsal, practices may not take place in the school hallways for safety and security reasons.

Dress rehearsal is required for all groups (see timeline above) and will be in the MRE auditorium. A parent or guardian for each group is required to be at dress rehearsal. The groups will perform their Lip Sync routines in the order they will perform on show night.  Dress rehearsal is important for all the performers to become used to the stage and to have a solid idea of how their night will go and the acts that come before their performance.

What happens the night of the show?

Performers may begin to arrive at the school at 6. Please do not arrive before 6.

All performers should go directly to the MRE gym. One parent or guardian should be in the gym with the group at all times. All guardians can go to their seats to watch their children perform.

The performers are not allowed into the auditorium. They remain in the gym until the final teacher performance. The show will be live streamed in the gym.

Each family will be asked to bring either a package of drinks (water bottles, juice boxes) or a package of individual prepackaged snacks on show night.

***Only individual prepackaged snacks are allowed under the school’s food policy.  No home-baked or non-store packaged goods can be brought in.

When the show is over, everyone is invited to the cafeteria for a small after party where the children can enjoy a quick snack and drink and share their experience with family and friends!

How can I ask questions?

Other Guidelines

Costumes: Age-appropriate and simple, it is not necessary to go out and buy anything, you can use fun things you have, bright and semi-coordinated works well!

Props: Are not necessary but some songs work well with a few props. Guardians are responsible for bringing props to dress rehearsal; they can be left if they fit appropriately behind the stage. Also, guardians are responsible for bringing props to show night and leaving with them.

General Tips:

  • Help the kids learn the lyrics; it makes for a better “Lip Sync” show when all the kids are singing along with the songs
  • Make sure all group members have a “cut” version of the song so they can practice at home
  • Print out the lyrics and makes notes on them of the dance steps; this will help kids remember when they are practicing on their own
  • Use the whole stage – don’t have the kids stay in 1 place, move around
  • Practice with your kids – it’s fun!
  • Keep everything age-appropriate and simple
  • On show night, kids watch the show using a movie projector in the gym to allow room for the audience. The kids may watch the show in the auditorium during the Dress Rehearsals if they remain quiet.
  • It’s in the group’s best interest to get together at least once a week to practice their routines.

DVD Orders: Sterling Lancaster Community Television will be recording both performances. DVD copies of the show night can be purchased for $10 (cash or check made out to Lancaster PTO). These can be purchased using the DVD order form that will be emailed to all participants – both the form and payment can be sent into school addressed to PTO. There will also be forms available during both dress rehearsals and on show night at the ticket table.

Previous Songs: If you need some advice on appropriate songs, take a look at songs that have been used in the past.
